Landru - Scotoma

Scotoma is without any doubt, the darkest ambient album released by Landru so far. Scotoma is full of intriguing noises and background drones capable of creating an enigmatic and invisible atmosphere that surrounds the listener from the very beginning as an intense and dense fog that remains present throughout the whole album. During this journey to the dark side of the vision, you may also find some groovy percussions and rhythmical patterns which add some light into this otherwise impassable landscapes.

Among the sonic sources used during the composition, you may find all kind of digital and software synthesizers and also some experimental and organic sounds coming from innovative instruments and field recordings such as the Kurzweil K2000 VX, Access Virus Redback, Quasimidi The Raven & Polymorph, Korg Legacy Analog & Digital Edition, Absynth and Sonic Forest.

All music were composed, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered by Landru at Atavachron Studios, Barcelona, during 2012.

This album is now available in FLAC, MP3 & CDr formats in Altera Orbe.

Diego Stocco – Transformed Rain

Transformed Rain is a sound design video work by Diego Stocco:

From the video description:

Few days ago I was working on a new instrument and needed to pick up some tools from my work table outside.
It was a rainy day.
While I was sorting through the tools, I started hearing a faint tonal rhythm that reminded me of ethnic percussions and wondered where it was coming from. It was the rain hitting a metallic trash bin that I had left upside down in front of the working table.
I stopped for a moment and focused my attention on the sound.

Besides the percussive noise of the rain, I started hearing some overtones, so I got inspired to create a piece by expanding the tonal resonances present within that sound. No additional instruments or samples. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Max Corbacho - The Ocean Inside

The Ocean Inside is the long awaited new album of Max Corbacho presents an immersive flow of emotional soundworlds and harmonic structures that bring us to the depths of the inner ocean.
Max Corbacho returns with a new work, this time as a long awaited double album, which again immerse ourselves into touching atmospheric ambient realms of pure beauty. The Ocean Inside is a paradise of lush, cascading long chords, as oceanic waves, back and forth, in an eternal flow of shifting tones and spiraling harmonies. This is music aimed at energy, emotional and mental levels, for listeners who love deep, meditative ambient music.

With this awesome album Corbacho portrays a very personal and introspective journey divided in two parts: one in his now classical melodic and cosmic style full of beauty and dreams and the other one introducing a deeper and a bit darker scenario surrounded by massive amounts of pads and drones that takes us to the dephts of serenity, like laying in the ground of an infinite ocean. In the end, this album is just an acurated soundtrack of every human soul.

In Max words:

More than two years ago I started this project from a Eastern concept that has always been present in my work: the analogy that exists between the mind as an ocean, with constantly changing waves at the surface, and the inner stillness and silence at the depths. It is from this seed that brings me to the concept of "Oceanic", the word from which I have been developed each of the parts that make up the album. During the creation of these pieces, I tried to go as deep as I could into this bottomless ocean depths. The Ocean Inside is the record of that dive into the depths, the witness that what matters is not how deep you can go, if not the experience of that moment.

The Ocean Inside is a double album and is now available in ad21 store in 2-CD Digipack format and in Altera Orbe both FLAC and MP3 digital formats. Don't miss it!!

Mindglide - Down the Light

Spanish ambient label Altera Orbe recently released Down the Light, a gorgeous space ambient work full of nostalgic and beautiful melodies surrounded by a complex universe of synthetic sounds created by Mindglide. This is the first album by thespanish ambient artist, which was recorded back in 2007 and now remastered and rebuilt for this new digital release.

In Mindglide's words:

Down the light is my first electronic music album, a work free of all standards and prejudices, an intimate feeling converted in to the music that approaches me to the cosmos, my  primal roots. It is inspired by the contemplation of landscapes where light writes the history of the universe throughout its existence, traveling in all directions through space and time and showing us the great spectacle of creation. A landscape of infinite magnificence, where everything is part of life.

Down The Light album_Medley by mindglide

Mindglide is the electronic musical project behind Rafael De Julián, an independent artist born in Valencia, Spain, with a deep influence from  electronic music, progressive rock and jazz. He started studying and creating music in the early 90’s attracted by synthesis and sequencing as a way of composing and developing his ideas with the main objective of evoking rich and deep feelings onto listeners.

Abre Ojos - Häxan

Abre Ojos, the ambient/noise musical project from the australian audiovisual artist Scott Baker, just presented his latest work Häxan, a six audio-visual tracks using the 1922 Häxan – Witchcraft Through the Ages Swedish/Danish silent horror film written and directed by Benjamin Christensen as a starting point to examine the persecution of women and the suppression of the Divine Feminine.

The footage has been cut up, reversed, inverted, time shifted and looped, which doesn’t undo the damages but releases the energy back to the Source, a transmutation of intention, beauty from the ugliness of mankind, restoring the balance in some small way. The titles come from the english translation subtitles from key points in the movie.

The audio is improvised on a eurorack modular synthesiser processed through Native Instruments Guitar Rig and Maschine. The videos were edited in After Effects and extra animations were created with Quartz Composer. The audio and visuals were performed and recorded live in the studio.

This is the video of the ending track of the album Their Unfailing Test:

66.6 minutes of morphing mandalas and electronic drones ranging from noise to warm tones that wrap you like a blanket. The DVD includes a DVD-ROM section where there are FLAC audio versions of the tracks and also links on the cover to download high quality MP3′s and iPad video of each track.

The DVD is a limited edition of 50 copies all hand numbered and every disc comes with an Abre Ojos sticker. They are $20AUD each including shipping to wherever you are in the world. Purchase below via Paypal. More details and order at abreojos.net.

Skoulaman - Without boundaries

Great electronic live jam by Skoulaman:

Description:

I found this beauty setting of the Waldorf Q. Its a nice sample of a full resonant opened filter'(notch). It is controlled by the Moog Little Phatty (by the arpeggiator and the modulation wheel) and the funny thing is that although the Moog isn't velocity sensitive the keys are and it works perfect for other velocity sensitive MIDI instruments. Its sends also polyfonic. I tweaked some Juno 106 noise together with the Moog sequence.

The solo pieces are from the Concertmate MG-1 and the DS8. The pads came from my favorit DS-8 and a low string sound from the Korg 05r/w. In opposite is the string and e-piano sound from the Lamda. All processed with Lexicon, Yamaha, Ibanez, Alesis and Electrix effects. It is best listened with good audio gear then you here the rich harmonics of the Waldorf, I filmed and recorded everything live without overdubs (I mostly don't use that).

Also, please notice that AKS (Attorks, Keesvangelis and Skoulaman) will go live on stage for the first time.at 27-10-2012. See the teaser preview of this exciting performance:

Ran Kirlian - Formations and Mystical Veils

Ran Kirlian released his latest album Formations, a masterwork that combines space and tribal ambient based on live improvisations.

This album defines a journey to the core of Ran Kirlian's tribal-ambient landscapes prevously visited on albums like Sleeper, Melting Point and Limbo. With a continuous flow of expansive and complex soundscapes accompanied by subtle melodies and tribal grooves, this album conforms an excellent immersive process in to the electro-acoustic tribal flavours of Ran Kirlian musical career.

Most of the music of  Formations is based on live improvisations subjected to a large evolutionary process, including the high privilege of counting with the ambient master Max Corbacho on the final mastering process.

The track of the next video, Aerthanna, is one of the pieces included in Formations, the new album of Ran Kirlian. The video version, published in september 2009, is a live improvissation and is mostly the same version included in the album, capturing the fresh and primordial essence of a raw creative process.

Formations is now available at Altera Orbe in CDr (limited edition), FLAC and MP3 formats. Also, as a special offer until November 5, the purchase of Formations comes with the mini-album Mystical Veils (Woomh Series 1), the first volume in the Woomh Series. It is an EP that collects 3 electronic pieces recorded live in 2009 in a different style Ran Kirlian music uses to be, with pulsating sequences and textures, a bit away from classical ambient genres.

The Woomh Series is a special product line which items are presented in mini-albums formats, containing unique, strange and isolated musical passages from the artists belonging to Altera Orbe or even special guests.

Parallel Worlds & Dave Bessell - Morphogenic (DiN41)

Morphogenic (DiN41) by Parallel Worlds & Dave Bessell is now available for purchase on CD via the DiN web store. Also, available for purchase as a digital download via the DiN Bandcamp store.

Morphogenic sees a new collaborative project on the DiN label, although the name of Parallel Worlds should be familiar to DiN aficionados due to the two solo albums Obsessive Surrealism (DiN26) & Shade (DiN32) as well as the more recent collaboration with DiN label boss Ian Boddy on Exit Strategy (DiN37). Dave Bessell is, of course, a new artist to join the DiN roster, although his name should be familiar to lovers of analogue electronica due to his contribution to the almost legendary band Node. One of the four founder members of this group, Dave is also joined on the track Heterodyne by Ed Buller the world renowned producer and master of the art of sequencing large vintage modular synths.

Video for track 'Corruption', from the CD album Morphogenic (DiN41) by Parallel Worlds and Dave Bessell. (out on DiN on 30th of October) :

"For the gearheads: most drums are synthetic, made on the A100/Eurorack modular with analogue sequencers and vco's of course. in detail, Plan B model 15's passed thru Make Noise QMMG lowpass gates.... plus various analogue scapes (Serge, various analogue synths, etc) of course... the orchestral strings ( heavily processed though) come from an old Roland S750 Sampler. even a little bit of NI Reaktor is in the track. plus heavy processing with Ableton Live."

Rheyne - 10/1/12 - Live Jam #55

A live looping improv jam using the "MF3D Launcher" created by Tomash Ghzegovsky for the DJ TechTools MIDI Fighter 3D, basically turning the MF3D into an Ableton Live control surface with instantaneous response. Details are at DJTT's website: http://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/664

SoundPrism Pro is wirelessly sending MIDI to an instance of NI's Massive. Animoog is sending and receiving MIDI through an iConnectMIDI. Lemur is wirelessly controlling filters and effects in Ableton Live. Also used is a DSI MoPho keyboard, and an Akai MPD26 controlling NI's Kontakt. All audio is passed through a PreSonus 1818VSL connected to a Macbook Pro running Ableton Live.

Special thanks to Tomash for creating a unique version of this template which turns the clip launch page into a 4x4 grid. I've re-colored the last bank of buttons to four vertical rows to match my own mapping for Ableton's loopers.

The lighting is 3x Chauvet Slim Par 56 LED's and an American DJ H2O LED.
